Monarch Earrings of Michoacan (Violet)

The winged wonders are hand-painted and lacquered copper from the local mines of Santa Clara del Cobre, Michoacan. Artisans Felipe and Alma are husband and wife who bring to metal not only a style that is a cultural heritage of their community, but also the global phenomenon of the monarch butterfly migration that flutters all the way over to a nearby sanctuary every year, where the butterflies themselves paint the sides of the trees upon which they find their mates over the winter.

The clasp is gold plated, with is metal wiring around the precious stones designed and assembled in Guadalajara, Mexico.
